Val Hearon Jones

Val has been an athlete since the age of 5, when she started figure skating.
She moved away from her family in Sacramento to go train in the Bay area
with Brian Boitano and his coaches. Unfortunately, she had a career-ending
knee injury at the age of 18. After skating professionally for a few years,
Val went to college where she became a cheerleader. She also taught step
aerobics for many years during college. She married her college sweetheart
in 1994 and they have two children. Finally, in 2007, Val found CrossFit.
While skating will always be her first love, CrossFit is definitely right
behind that. She enjoys the challenges that CrossFit provides and that it
still allows her to be a competitor. She enjoys coaching very much and
feels that this is her way of giving back. She is looking forward to continuing her career and adding more certifications.

I was a runner and mountaineer for two decades before I found CrossFit. I was solidly an endurance athlete with some weightlifting and callisthenic experience. The camaraderie at CrossFit Centennial, combined with the challenging workouts made me a regular at the gym almost immediately. As my abilities in all the fitness domains developed I decided to become a trainer. Leading workouts allows me to help others become well rounded athletes, as I did, through CrossFit. I enjoy working with beginners on the basic functional movements and helping everyone learn the many skills taught every day in the gym.

As an athlete making a comeback after several years and two kids, I found Centennial Crossfit (CCF) to be a perfect place to work out and be a part of a community. My background is more outdoor endurance events, triathlons, half marathons, one marathon, snow shoe racing, and most recently in 2014 a 50 mile mountain bike race. I enjoy the adventure of trying new things – and especially the excitement of helping others believe that they can do more than they thought.

My passion as a coach is to help women and beginners gain confidence and strength. I love how Crossfit is equally rewarding and humbling – you may have attained a new skill which feels awesome, at the same time there are multiple others that are out there for you to tackle as you get better. One of the specific reasons I enjoy CCF is that there is a great program for beginners, and that all people are valued as part of the team.
